Greek-Inspired Bifteki with Tomato Rice

1. In a large bowl, mix together the ground beef, egg, finely chopped onion, pressed garlic, gyro spices, mild paprika powder, hot paprika powder, and olive oil. Season with pepper and Maggi seasoning.
2. Soak the slice of bread in water and squeeze out the excess liquid. Crumble the bread into the bowl and mix everything together until well combined.
3. Divide the meat mixture into equal portions and shape each into a patty. Place a small amount of crumbled sheep’s cheese in the center of each patty and form the meat around the cheese to encase it completely.

Cook the Biftekis:

1. Preheat a grill or grill pan to medium-high heat. Cook the biftekis for 5-7 minutes on each side, or until they are cooked through and have nice grill marks.
2. Remove from the grill and let them rest for a few minutes before serving.

Prepare the Rice:

1. In a large saucepan, sauté the chopped onion and minced garlic in a little olive oil over medium heat until softened.
2. Add the rice to the saucepan and cook, stirring frequently, until the rice is lightly toasted.
3. Pour in the chicken or vegetable broth and the diced tomatoes with their juice. Stir in the dried oregano, and season with salt and pepper.
4. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan, and simmer for 18-20 minutes, or until the rice is tender and the liquid is absorbed.
