🍎Preparation🍎
1. Start by making the caramel. In a saucepan, combine the sugar and water. Cook over medium heat, swirling the pan occasionally, until the sugar has melted and the mixture turns a deep amber color. Immediately pour the caramel into the bottom of a 9-inch round cake pan. Arrange the apple slices on top of the caramel in a decorative pattern.
2. Preheat the oven to 340°F (170°C). In a separate saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the honey, buttermilk, eggs, sugar, and vanilla extract. In a large bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, stirring until just combined. Pour the batter over the apples and caramel in the cake pan.
3. Bake the cake for 1 hour, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 15 minutes, then carefully invert it onto a serving platter. Serve the cake warm, with a dollop of whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream if desired.
