Directions
Making the Cake:
- Preheat your oven to 350ยฐF (175ยฐC). Grease and flour two 8-inch round cake pans.
- In a mixing bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
- In another mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time, ensuring each is fully incorporated before adding the next.
- Stir in the vanilla extract and lemon zest.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the whole milk. Begin and end with the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
- Divide the cake batter evenly between the prepared pans and smooth the tops.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cakes comes out clean.
- Remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for about 10 minutes. Then, transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
