Directions

Making the Cake:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350ยฐF (175ยฐC). Grease and flour two 8-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a mixing bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In another mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the eggs one at a time, ensuring each is fully incorporated before adding the next.
  5. Stir in the vanilla extract and lemon zest.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the whole milk. Begin and end with the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
  7. Divide the cake batter evenly between the prepared pans and smooth the tops.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cakes comes out clean.
  9. Remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for about 10 minutes. Then, transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
