To start, thinly slice the flank steak into bite-sized strips. Cut the broccoli into florets, and grate the ginger and garlic. In a small bowl, mix together the ingredients for the stir fry sauce – hot water, soy sauce, brown sugar, cornstarch, black pepper, and sesame oil.
Next, heat a tablespoon of oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the beef strips and stir fry for about 2-3 minutes until they are browned on all sides. Remove the beef from the skillet and set it aside.

In the same skillet, add another tablespoon of oil and then the broccoli florets. Cook for about 4-5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the broccoli is tender-crisp.
Return the beef to the skillet and pour in the stir fry sauce. Cook and stir until the sauce thickens and coats the beef and broccoli, for about 2-3 minutes.
