- Preheat your oven to 325°F (163°C).
- In a mixing bowl, beat the eggs well.
- Add sugar, salt, and vanilla extract to the beaten eggs. Mix until well combined.
- Heat the milk until it is warm but not boiling. You can do this on the stovetop or in the microwave.
- Gradually add the warm milk to the egg mixture, stirring constantly.
- Strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve into another bowl to remove any lumps.
- Pour the custard mixture into individual ramekins or a baking dish.
- Sprinkle ground nutmeg on top of each custard for flavor.
- Place the ramekins or baking dish in a larger baking pan. Fill the larger pan with hot water until it reaches halfway up the sides of the custard dishes.
- Carefully transfer the pan to the preheated oven.
- Bake for about 45-50 minutes or until the custard is set but still slightly jiggly in the center.
- Remove from the oven and let the custard cool. It will continue to set as it cools.
- Once cooled, refrigerate the custard until ready to serve.
